It’s that time of year again! Join the Rock Your Block team at the annual OutRun Anxiety 5K and 10K Walk/Run and Expo! Check out our post from last year’s event – Such a blast!
We are excited to announce that we are sponsoring the 2012 OutRun Anxiety 5k/10k and Wellness Expo to support one of our awesome partners, a local non-profit, Anxiety In Teens.
Anxiety In Teens was founded by an Eden Prairie teenager in 2006, Solome Tibebu. When she was in middle school and high school, she suffered from a severe anxiety disorder. While at a summer camp, Solome was searching for an online resource to help her in her time of need while she was remote. She was surprised to find that there was no such resource that could provide the refuge or community she was seeking, so she took out a notebook and started drafting the beginnings of what would be anxietyinteens.org
That was in 2006 when Solome was 16-years-old. Today, Anxiety In Teens, non-profit LLC is becoming the place for information, inspiration and community like Solome had always hoped it would. Some of their highlights in the past few years include:
- Launched the online magazine for youth with mental health disorders at www.anxietyinteens.org
- Solome received awards such as the Minnesota Association of Children’s Mental Health Award and Pentair Entrepreneurship Scholarship. She accepted the Ashoka YouthVenture Entrepreneur-In-Residence position (she will be speaking at Ashoka Headquarters in DC this July), and has been a speaker at various schools, support groups, conferences and national talk shows. Solome gave a TED talk last fall: http://www.ted.com/tedx/events/4110
- Hosted several offline events included the Finals Week Stress Relief Event, Yoga Wellness Event and other educational and social events.
- For the past few years at St. Thomas, Anxiety In Teens has partnered with the Learning Through Service Program where college students serve 40 hours at a non-profit site of their choice. We’ve had almost 40 college students help us with event planning, content writing and marketing. The experience has been a great one not only for Anxiety In Teens but also for the volunteering students who suffer from eating disorders, anxiety disorders, depression or substance abuse issues of their own. The experience has allowed them the unique opportunity to be in a position to help others dealing with issues that they once struggled through.
Join us in this great fundraiser event to help Anxiety In Teens continue to provide resources to Minnesota’s youth!

Working a big event like the Minneapolis Marathon this past weekend is tough work–from being at the race course at the crack of dawn to scrambling to keep up with enough water and Powerade cups for all the runners zooming by, our crew of 18 focused teens made it happen and had a blast doing it.
This is the second race organized by Team Ortho that our teens have worked. They love the thrill of the fast-paced work and the ability to use their high energy and excitement to pump up all the runners that pass through.
